Deutsche Kunst – vor allem Malerei – ist seit Jahrzehnten international extrem erfolgreich. Aber warum eigentlich? Deutsche Kunst ist mit Künstlern wie Neo Rauch, Georg Baselitz oder Gerhard Richter so gefragt wie nie zuvor. Ihr Verkaufsvolumen hat sich von 2002 auf 2006 auf 1,3 Milliarden Euro fast verdoppelt. Die Bilder des deutschen Malers Gerhard Richter gelten als die höchstdotierten Bilder eines noch lebenden deutschen Künstlers. Sein Werk “Kerze” wurde 2008 für 10,5 Millionen Euro verkauft.

Stacey Moore captures the essence of Venice Beach through her gorgeous photography. Until May 31st, limited edition prints of her work are available to collectors via Kickstarter, through a special project called “30 Days. 30 Photos. 30 Dollars.” These photographs depict scenes of Southern California’s dynamic beach culture in its various moods.

Moore designed “30 Days. 30 Photos. 30 Dollars.” as a collaborative endeavor, inviting the project’s backers to help curate a collection of 30 images. People have until midnight on May 31st to sign up for the project on Kickstarter. The 30 day project begins on June 1st. For a pledge of $ 30, a backer can choose an 11″ x 14″ archival photographic print from 10 images currently available, or from 20 new images that will be added during the month of June.

The newly launched project has inspired positive comments from its backers. Actress Daphne Zuniga says, “These photos are stunning and I love the commentary about all the movement on the beach. I can’t wait to put these on my wall.” Local supporter, Laura Wagner, commented, “When I first felt the air and laid eyes on Venice beach, I thought, ‘I can do anything here.’ 15 years later I continue to soar. Thank you for capturing the magic of this very special place.”

A long-time resident of the Pacific coast, Stacey Moore began exploring its terrain first through daily bicycle journeys, and then through photography. Her work delineates those journeys, revisiting them repeatedly to highlight the beach’s variability, often in surprising ways. One project backer, Robert Allen, commented, “For the majority of us who aren’t fortunate to live so close to the beaches of Southern California we have an idea of it all being Gidget fun in the sun. Your images really capture the endless variety truly there. I love the Stormy Day series as they’re so unexpected.”

As Moore notes, “There is so much movement at the beach; people are in motion, the sun is changing, the ocean is moving, the sky and clouds shift, birds are flying everywhere.” Returning again and again to this ever-changing environment, Stacey Moore seizes actions and rhythms in time. Her photographs focus on particular moments in order to evoke the stillness and harmony she finds within this movement of life.

1. Zur Geschichte des Museum Ludwig von 1976 bis heute

Den Anfang des Kölner Museums der Gegenwartskunst machte die Expressionismus-Sammlung des Kölner Bürgers Josef Haubrich. Damals hieß das Kunstmuseum noch Wallraf-Richartz-Museum.

Nach und nach kamen weitere Werke des 20. Jahrhunderts dazu bis im Jahre 1976 am 5. Februar das Ehepaar Ludwig mit der Stadt Köln einen Schenkungsvertrag abschließte. Das Ehepaar Peter und Irene Ludwig stifteten 350 Werke moderner Kunst worauf sie ein Museum Namens „Museum Ludwig“ erschafften. Dieses Museum wurde im selben Gebäude wie das Wallaf-Richartz-Museum untergebracht.

Die Sammlung des Ehepaars besteht aus vielfältigen Werken der Kunst des 20. Jahrhunderts und der Gegenwartkunst.
Erst gelangten arbeiten der Russischen Avantgarde und schließlich mehrere hundert Werke von Pablo Picasso in das Museum. Später noch eine Sammlung amerikanischer Pop Art.

Durch eine weitere Stiftung der Familie Ludwig zog das Wallraf-Richartz-Museum in ein anderes Gebäude, da der nötige Platz fehlte.

Im Jahre 2001 wurde das „Museum Ludwig“ neu eröffnet. Peter Ludwig war zu diesem Zeitpunkt leider schon verstorben, sodass seine Frau Irene Ludwigs dem Museum zur Neueröffnung weitere 774 Werke von Picasso überließ. So verfügte das Museum von da an über die drittgrößte Picasso-Sammlung weltweit.

Weiter wurden dem Museum Kunstwerke gestiftet, die für die Vergrößerung des Museums sorgten. Dies ist bis heute noch der Fall.

Renowned artist Kaucyila Brooke, an invited exhibitor and speaker at Bucharest Biennale 4, which begins on May 21, 2010, has, without warning, had her work removed from the show.

Ms. Brooke had been formally invited to participate in BB4 by curator Felix Vogel who has been following her work since viewing one of her exhibits in Munich in 2007. Kaucyila Brooke is a highly respected Los Angeles-based artist whose work has been shown extensively in museums and art galleries throughout Europe and in the United States. She is a member of the faculty at Cal Arts in Los Angeles.

BB4 is produced by Artphoto Asc., the umbrella organization around Pavilion Magazine, as well as the new Centre for Contemporary Art and Culture in Bucharest Pavilion UniCredit. Approximately 45 artists and artists groups are expected to present their works/projects in various locations throughout Bucharest, including museums, a former observatory, art galleries and public spaces. Ms. Brookes work was assigned to the Geology Institute.

However, once the director of the Geology Institute had viewed the partially installed exhibit, he demanded that it be removed from the museum. No formal explanation has yet to be offered, although officials at BB4 have indicated they still expect Ms. Brooke to speakbut without having her work exhibited.

This de-installation will make Kaucyila Brookes work, Tit for Twat, the only project to be censored during the 2010 Biennale.

Now the work wont be shown, says Ms. Brooke, because theres no other institution thats large enough to accommodate it. Ive offered to be flexible, to install only part of the project, or show it in several spaces. But theres neither the space, nor the resources to rent one, and they (BB4) refuse to consider making room within the exhibition thats already installed.

Kaucyila Brookes ongoing project, Tit for Twat, is a three part photo montage, photo novella, gender art narrative designed for both exhibition and publication. Its chapters, Madam and Eve in the Garden, Can We Talk?, and Its Not About Shame. Accessorize!, address the biblical presumption of heterosexuality and its relationship to other theories of origin, notions of innovation and origin in history, creationism, science and material culture.

Kaucyila Brooke’s comprehensive work “Tit for Twat”, having been developed since the early 1990s, is one of the seminal works in gender oriented conceptual art of the last two decades. Its prohibition at the Geology Museum in the frame of the Bucharest Biennale 2010 would not only mean a severe case of censorship but also a very sad denial for the Romanian public to see this outstanding, concise, political but at the same time warm and humorous work, adds Stella Rollig, Director, Lentos Kunstmuseum Linz.

Ms. Brookes solo exhibitions include Silberkuppe, Berlin (2009); Alfred Ehrhardt Foundation/ Forum fur Fotographie, Cologne (2008); Galerie Andreas Huber, Vienna (2008. 2006). Recent group exhibitions include Centre DArt Passerelle, Brest, France; Galician Center for Contemporary Art, Santiago do Compstela, Spain; Kunsthalle Baden Baden, Germany (2009). Ms. Brooke is scheduled to be a guest speaker at the Goethe Institute in Los Angeles, CA, USA on June 24th, 2010, for the lecture series, Big City Forum, organized by Leonardo Bravo. Ms. Brooke is represented by Andersens Contemporary Art, Copenhagen; Galerie Andreas Huber, Vienna and the Michael Dawson Gallery, Los Angeles. She is the former Director of the Program in Photography and Media at CalArts in Los Angeles where she has been a regular member of the faculty since 1992. »In meiner Jugend orientierte ich mich an der jeweils neuesten Jazzmusik. Die Beschäftigung mit den Theorien Schönbergs und vor allem mit Bachs Sonaten für Violine solo haben mir später andere Wege des Ausdrucks eröffnet. Bis zu meinem 42. Lebensjahr hätte ich aber aus Respekt vor den größten Meistern nicht gewagt, auch nur einen Ton für ein klassisches Konzert zu schreiben. Als Komponist, Jazzmusiker und privilegierter Gelegenheitsarbeiter versuchte ich a) meine Ideen und Gefühle in mir zugänglichen Dimensionen (diverse LPs mit Kompositionen, zwei Filme, ein paar Texte & Zeichnungen u.a.m.) auszudrücken und b) das rot-schwarze Farbenspiel auf meinem Bankkonto zu beeinflussen.
Eines schönen Morgens teilte mir der Geiger Peter Lefor telefonisch mit, daß er für sein nächstes ORF-Konzert ein Stück von mir für Solo-Violine auf’s Programm gesetzt hat. So betrat ich mit tastender Zehe … den Weg, den ich heute noch gehe. Ich versuche Musik zu schreiben, die ausdrückt, was ich im Augenblick denke, fühle … und bin. Oder das Gegenteil.«
